Tabs in windows#

Lens premium subscription feature. See details on Lens Pricing.

Lens K8S IDE can show any tab in a window of its own, which you can move to another part of the screen or to a second monitor. Tabs in windows is part of Lens Studio, which comes with the Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscription plans and with an active trial.

Open a tab in a window#

Use any of these ways:

  • Drag a tab out of the Lens window and let go of it outside the window.
  • Right-click a tab and select Open in new window. The tab leaves the main view and shows in the new window.
  • Right-click a page in the navigator, such as Pods under a cluster, and select Open in new window. A cluster or a folder opens in the navigator, so its menu has no such item.
  • Right-click a link to a list, such as a count on the workload overview, and select Open in new window. The list opens in a window without a tab in the main view.

Work in the window#

The window shows one tab at a time. Its header bar has back and forward buttons that go through what you opened in the window, including the details you opened from its lists.

To lay out every window over the screen you are working on, select Window > Cascade Windows in the application menu.

Put the tab back#

Click Demote as Tab in the window's header bar. The tab returns to the window it came from, and its window closes. The button shows only while the window the tab came from is still open.

Closing the window instead discards its tab.

Windows after a restart#

Lens opens your windows again after a restart. Each window shows the tab it showed last, opened afresh.

Open in a window with Ask AI#

Ask AI can open a list of resources or a page of the navigator in a window of its own, and move a tab that is already open into a window.

Without a premium subscription#

Without Lens Studio, Open in new window carries a PREMIUM badge in every menu. Selecting it, or dragging a tab out of the Lens window, opens the Premium Features page instead of a window. The tab stays where it was.

When Lens Studio ends, for example when a trial expires, windows that are already open keep their tab.
